Holy Martyrs Armenian High School’s tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students took part in a seminar presented in part by the California Highway Patrol and State Farms Insurance, which taught the students about the importance of safe driving, specifically about the dangers of drinking and driving.

On October 21, 2009, Officer Tang of the California Highway Patrol spoke to the students about the dangers of drinking and driving, and showed to them a video made by high school students from Malibu High School. The video was about a group of high school students who decide one morning to drink before driving to school, and the consequences of their actions. The video was very emotional, and had a lot of the students thinking about themselves and their families, and the effect it will have on everyone around them if they make such poor decisions.

Following the presentation, Officer Tang gave students an idea of what he does. He is the person who has the unfortunate job of notifying parents and loved-ones when a relative has died in a car accident. He is known as the “grim reaper” by his fellow officers. The students later had the opportunity to ask Officer Tang questions that they had. Mr. Tang answered all of the questions fully and accurately.

The assembly was very informative to everyone that was present. It taught the students the dangers of alcohol and that even the smallest of errors or poor decisions can lead to a life time of regret and denial, or even no life at all.
