In light of recent developments between the
Republics of Armenia and Turkey, specifically the startling
announcement of an agreement which is said to be signed next
month, the administration felt it appropriate and necessary that
our students learn more about the “protocol” and understand the
possible dangers it could pose to the Armenian people.
Dr. Razmig Shirinian, high school teacher of
American history and government, presented two documents
released by the governments of Armenia and Turkey to the high
school and middle school students, reading them, and explaining
to them what the documents, which listed what the two countries
wished to achieve diplomatically, meant for Armenia and the
Armenian people.
Using a document prepared by the Armenian
National Committee, which explained the dangers of the
protocols, Dr. Shirinian engaged the students, who discussed the
issue enthusiastically and with great interest.
Dialogue between the rival nations have had
the community on edge, and the announcement of the drafted
protocols on August 31, 2009, had much of the Diaspora outraged.
A joint protests organized by the Armenian Revolutionary
Federation, the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party, the Armenian
Democratic Liberal Party, and the United Young Armenians will be
held in Glendale, this Sunday, September 27, 2009, against the
protocols.
